2018 Milwaukee Irish Fest, Set Up and Day One

I am one of the four thousand volunteers that works with CelticMKE and Irish Fest to put on one of the world's largest outdoor Irish music festivals.  While I love being a staff photographer, I show up on the Milwaukee Summerfest grounds on Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. to work until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday to make sure the festival is ready to go.

My main grounds job as a volunteer:  I cover the tables with plastic table cloths.

It is harder than it looks...and it was hot and sunny.

The priority: beer.  It is Wisconsin after all.

Sometime even management feels the strain:

As a grounds crew volunteer, I show up each morning before the show starts and re-set table cloths destroyed the night before by our attendees.  This goes on Thursday through Sunday so that the fest looks the best when our guests arrive.

Thursday is a short day for the public with the stages only open from 5:00 p.m. to close. The excitement of final hearing the bands on stage is well worth all the work we do all week to make it happen.
