The History of Book Making in Three Hours

Today Denice and I went to the Whitewater Public Library to teach our workshop, The History of Book Making in Three Hours.  This is the second time we have been at WPL, the first time was to teach their staff the same workshop.  Today we had ten students in a workshop open to the public and everyone seemed to have a good time.

In three hours, we use a PowerPoint to review the development of the book through time.  At various times in the lecture, we teach the following forms:  cuneiform, jiance, scroll, accordian, orihon and chapbook.

We try to mix the lecture with some actual book making although the goal is to learn the form, not make a work of art. Hopefully they will have us back sometime to do a workshop on just one form where we can make a work with more care.

What is confirmed every time I do this is that I love to teach workshops.
