2023 06 Toolin'

The Class Samples for Toolin'

I was privileged to be able to teach another workshop at one of my favorite spots in the art world, Shake Rag Alley in Mineral Point, WI. This year I developed Toolin', and here is the course description:

"According to the Encarta Dictionary: Assemblage (is) a work of art made from a collection of different objects. Gary is offering a workshop where ALL THE TOOLS YOU COULD WANT TO SEE are provided. Gary will be teaching the basics of assemblage construction plus mixed media techniques so that you will be able to create a work of art from a tool that will become your core central object. Select found object tools from Gary’s stash and learn how to build an assemblage. Attach objects together and decorate them into a unified work of art with the goal of creating an assemblage that tells a story. Time to share ideas and learn from fellow participants. Three days, free crap, cool art, and lots of fun."

The workshop schedule was 9am-4:30pm Friday through Sunday with optional evening hours on Friday and Saturday from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. The schedule was modified during the weekend as the class took advantage of the Crazy Frank's Outdoor Flea Market on Saturday morning and the Dodgeville Lion's Club Flea Market on Sunday morning.

On the third and last day we did a walkabout for a show and tell of the projects made over the weekend.

All my thanks to the staff of Shake Rag Alley and the wonderful participants in the 2023 Toolin' class.

I also thank with all my love my assistant for the weekend, Denice Niebuhr, who also took many of the photos you saw in this blog. Thanks, Babe.
