Today we got up at 7:00 a.m. and went to breakfast at the Angel’s Creek Cage in downtown Angel’s Camp. Then it was on the road to Sacramento, California’s state capital.
We made a photo shoot stop at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery.
Our first stop of the day was the California State Railroad Museum. The museum was celebrating the 155th Anniversary of the Completion of the Transcontinental Railroad with a display about the Chinese railroad workers who built the lines.
We found out that the third floor is The Magic of Scale Model Railroading sponsored by the National Model Railroad Association. To say that made my day would be an understatement.
The rest of the museum has rolling stock that was fun to investigate.
The museum is in Old Town Sacramento which is right on the river. Denice and I walked around the shops for about an hour. We discovered The Delta Queen, a docked riverboat and decided that was going to be our evening meal destination.
Our second stop of the day was the California Automobile Museum. Denice and I are placard readers so besides the cool cars it took us the rest of the afternoon to explore the rows of autos.
We checked into our destination for the night, the Sure Stay Plus by Best Western Sacramento North. This hotel proved to be a bit of a challenge as it is a gated motel in downtown Sacramento in an area of a large homeless population. We tried to be broadminded but it makes a startling contrast to where we ate dinner last night on the toney golf course.
At 5:30 we went to dinner at The Delta Queen riverboat. The white tabled-clothed first floor dining room was closed so we were sat upstairs in the noisy bar area. The food was excellent and we did get to see a herd of sea lions screaming their lungs out on the dock across the river from us.
