2025 11 Eventually Grave Robbers Will Enter the Crypts of All Kings

My mentor and art buddy Michael de Meng has a new on-line assemblage course called Patron Saint of Rusty Things

I knew far in advance of the start date of this on-line workshop that I actually auditioned my pieces and took them with me to the class I taught at Shake Rag Alley in September called A Hollow That Needs To Be Filled. When I teach there is an open studio in the evening so I can work on my own projects when I am only the room monitor and not the teacher. This is as far as I got there.

At home I got a chance to continue to noodle on the piece.

I decided to use this figure as my central character in the shrine. Despite being a Pope, I had no issues beheading the figure for my purposes.

During Covid I took an on-line workshop with artist Stephanie Lee. Stephanie is a plaster of paris user and since the on-line class I have been finding it great to use as an assemblage texture. Michael had Stephanie as a special guest in this current on-line class and it was great to renew my skill level.

I got so excited I ended up plastering pretty much everything.

Now it is time to paint.

To age my King I used Kroma Crackle

Although the class was all about the rust, the only thing I rusted with the King's plane

Thus we have Eventually Grave Robbers Will Enter the Crypts of All Kings. The title came as a modification of this line of poetry from the poem Windy Evening by Charles Simic: "Stars Like Torches Of Grave Robbers Entering The Crypts Of The Kings." It is 25"H X 11"W X 8"D, It consists of a Pope Pius XI Statute, Wood Shrine, Burner, Metal Toy Plane, Watch Hands (3), Metal Piece, Film Reel, Dial Face, Drawer Pull, Tin (2), Erector Set Pieces (3), Curtain Pull Thread, and Nails (12).
